Justin Guerrero played like a general on Friday.
The Franklin D. Roosevelt High School quarterback had a 34-yard touchdown run and passed for 150 yards in the host Presidents’ 13-0 win over Valley Central.
“I think he may have been our entire offense in the first half,” Roosevelt coach Brian Bellino said of Guerrero. “He certainly scrambled on some broken plays and used his legs. We’ve been trying to have him run a little more, coming off a bad knee injury.”
Guerrero’s main target proved to Tyler Van Steenburgh, who had 90 receiving yards. On defense, he came up with an interception. Teammate Elijah Hewitt scored on a one-yard touchdown carry.
Roosevelt’s defense was just as strong.
The Presidents forced four turnovers and blocked a field goal in the shutout.
“I thought we certainly played a good defensive game,” Bellino said. “We kept them out of the end zone.”
The Presidents (2-1) visit Washingtonville on Saturday, Sept. 23.
“We’ve played them six times since I’ve been head coach,” Bellino said of the Wizards. “Probably four or five of those times have been one-touchdown games. It should be a good game, if history says anything.”
