Dover High School’s football team had a two-hour bus ride to Ellenville Friday.

The journey back home after the game may not have seemed that long, however, as the Dragons came away with a 28-0 win over the Blue Devils.

It was Dover’s second straight win and second consecutive shutout.

“It’s a lot easier when you win,” Dragons coach Casey Lorenz said. “We didn’t drive up here two hours to go home upset. They met the expectations and did a great job.”

Angus Edmundson was one of the Dragons’ many key players. He caught three touchdown passes from quarterback Joe Mascetta and came up with an interception on defense. Mascetta also rushed for a touchdown.

Defensively, Dover was just as forceful. Alex Vitolo added an interception, while Taylor Martin, Miles Williams, Clayton Brothers and Nick Ferreri played “strong games” on the defensive line, Lorenz said.

“We had multiple players contribute in several areas,” the coach added. “It was another good team effort to not only win, but win with another shutout. Those kids took a lot of pride in the end of the game.”

The Dragons (2-0) host Spackenkill on Saturday, Sept. 17.

“They’re a very talented team,” Lorenz said of the Spartans. “I think they will be the best team we’ve played this year.”
