A carry-over effect? Quite possibly.

The Spackenkill High School boys golf team won the Mid-Hudson Athletic League team championship Thursday. The Spartans shot a 163 at par-36 Apple Greens Golf Course in Highland. On Monday, Spackenkill had its best four-player round since 2008, shooting a 151 at McCann Memorial Golf Course.

Erik Stauderman shot a team-low 37 with two birdies and four pars to lead Spackenkill. Teammate Stanley Garrant shot a 39 with six pars, while Ryan Ackert carded a 40 and made five pars.

Rondout Valley finished second with a 173, Franklin D. Roosevelt shot a team 184 for third place and Rhinebeck finished fourth with a 188.

“It feels great,” Spackenkill coach Keith Humphrey said. “The kids accomplished what they wanted since August. They worked hard and stayed focused.”

Spackenkill had to contend with some stiff competition to win it, too.

“Once you get there, these teams are good,” Humphrey said. “There were many talented golfers out there.”

Roosevelt’s Jeffrey Peters earned medalist honors with a 36. Fellow President Zack Plambeck shot a 45.

“He was very steady and he stayed composed,” Humphrey said of Peters. “He’s a very confident golfer; very composed and extremely talented. I’m impressed.”

Parker Knoop was Rhinebeck’s low scorer with a 44. Teammate Stephen Byrum shot a 45.

The Section 9 state qualifier will take place at Apple Greens at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday.
